Greetings!

We understand that even with insurance, you could encounter medical bills through

cost sharing such as copays and coinsurances. If you encounter sizable medical bill,

you should be aware that you may qualify for assistance through Medicaid or the

hospital system’s financial assistance programs (FAP).

Medicaid is a state and federally funded program that can help eligible individuals

with limited income access low-cost or no-cost health coverage. Even if you already

have Medicare or other insurance, you may still qualify for Medicaid to help reduce

your out-of-pocket expenses, including copays, coinsurance, and prescription costs.

Pennsylvania residents can review requirements and apply for Medicaid benefits

through the state’s COMPASS portal. You can learn more and start an application

The hospital financial assistance programs, sometimes also known as Charity Care,

can provide free or discounted medical care to eligible patients. To qualify, you must

meet the program’s criteria - which is typically income based, dependent on your

insurance status, and your ability to pay a substantial portion of your expenses. You

can contact the hospital’s financial services or billing departments to get the

information for the required documentation and an application. Below, we have

listed links to the web pages and phone numbers for the common health networks in

the Lehigh Valley.
